Wanda Duvernet
Wanda Duvernet died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 81.
Born in Louisiana, she was the daughter of Douglas Joseph Duvernet and Maudie Welch Duvernet.
Miss Duvernet was manager of Forest Hills Apartments for a number of years and was later an assistant manager at Beechwood Apartments. She was a member of numerous community and civic organizations and had served as president of the Vicksburg Lions Club. She was affiliated with the Louisiana Democratic Party for a number of years and, after moving to Vicksburg, was a member of the Democratic Party Committee.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus No. 898 Ladies Auxiliary.
Miss Duvernet is survived by several cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall of the church. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Baton Rouge.
Pallbearers will be Joe Loviza, Martin Pace, Pete Summers, Jack Dowe, Zenon Sucharski and Gwen Edris.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vicksburg Lions Club.
Sarah Russell Gaines
Services for Sarah Russell Gaines will be at noon Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roosevelt Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service.
Mrs. Gaines died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 91.
Mrs. Gaines was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley Russell and Erma Williams Russell; and 13 siblings.
She is survived by nephews and nieces, including Annie Honorable of Vicksburg and Estell Donerson of Atlanta; great-nieces; great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Roy Douglas Miller Jr.
Minister Roy Douglas Miller Jr., 46, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Mitchell Dent.
He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Ammie L. Miller, Lieutenant, U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C.; one son, Roy Miller III of Florida; two daughters, Joya Clyde-Scott of Vicksburg and Tiffany Jones of Florida; parents, James and Deloris Clark of Vicksburg; one sister, Burthee Wiggins of Vicksburg; and his grandmothers, Willie Mae Frazier of Vicksburg and Georgia Thompson of Detroit, Mich.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Ministries. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Jon T. Ransome
Mr. Jon T. Ransome died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 48.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Joe and Betty Bobby Ransome. He was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of the Presbyterian faith.
Mr. Ransome is survived by a sister, Susan Nyman of Houston, Texas; a brother, Rodney Ransome of Vicksburg; niece, Stephanie Nyman of Houston; and a nephews, Joel Nyman of Houston.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. B.J. Scholls officiating.

Lloyd David Yelder Sr.
Services for Lloyd David Yelder Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary M.B. Church, East Avenue. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Mr. Yelder died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 49.
A Vicksburg native, Mr. Yelder was a 1977 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving as a munitions specialist. He was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church. He had worked as a long-haul driver for Builders Transport of Tuba, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophronia McGloster.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Yelder of Vicksburg; four daughters, Lori McAfee of Jackson, Latasha Culberton of Las Vegas, and Jylla Yelder and Asia Yelder, both of Vicksburg; three sons, Lloyd Yelder Jr. and Dominique Maddox, both of Atlanta, and Lamar Culberton of Las Vegas; his father, George McGloster of Vicksburg; his birth mother, Essie Yelder Owens of Detroit; one sister, Richetta Aiken of Detroit; one brother, Richard Owens of Detroit; his maternal grandmother, Essie Yelder of Detroit; four grandchildren; and other relatives, including Verdell Yelder Whitaker of Pontiac, Mich., Margie Herron of Vicksburg, Patricia Reed Yelder of Anchorage, Alaska, and members of the Remsey, Herron, Kirkland, Davis and Joyce families.
