Holmes leads Eagles’ rout in Alabama

Clayton Holmes completed 9 of 9 passing attempts with three touchdowns and ran for 100 yards and a touchdown in the first half to lead Porters Chapel Academy’s 42-18 rout of Jackson Academy of Alabama on Friday night.
Holmes completed touchdown passes to Reed Gordon, Colby Rushing and Josh Perry and ended the game with 185 passing yards.
Josh Perry added two rushing touchdowns and finished with more than 100 yards on the ground as Porters Chapel took a 35-12 lead into halftime.
Jason Greer connected on 6 of 6 extra point attempts.
Rushing and Gordon each had four receptions.
Porters Chapel, the top-ranked team in Academy-A, improved to 8-0 on the season.
Huntington 58, Tallulah 49
Jeremy Randall ran for five touchdowns to lead Huntington School to a wild win over Tallulah Academy in a game that featured 107 points scored and nearly 900 yards of offense.
Tallulah (4-4) had 217 yards rushing and another 117 passing as Jeff Shivers was 8-of-17, including a 17-yard TD pass to John Robert Thorntenberry that made it 30-29 with 14 seconds left in the first half after a two-point run by Nick Rowell.
Randall, who finished with 121 yards on eight carries, scored on runs of 3, 64, 9, 32 and 25 yards. The 9-yard score made it 38-29 after a two-point run by Josh Lee, who had 174 yards rushing on 18 carries.
The two teams then traded three touchdowns over the final 20 minutes. Thorntenberry scored on a 25-yard run while Jeff Shivers and Cody Landrum also scored on short runs. Landrum led the Trojans with 96 yards rushing on 25 carries.
Huntington finished with 380 yards on the ground and another 155 passing.
St. Andrew’s 19, Hinds AHS 10
The War Dawgs (5-2, 3-1 Region 6-2A) missed two scoring opportunities in the second quarter and St. Andrew’s escaped with a key region win in Madison Friday night.
Charlie Scott scored three touchdowns for the Saints (5-2, 3-0) on runs of 25, 4 and 65 yards. Hinds AHS got on the board first when Jimmy White got a tackle in the end zone. Scott came back with two TD runs to make it 12-2. Hinds could’ve taken the lead but did not score after twice getting inside the Saints’ 10-yard line.
“I thought we out-played them, but didn’t score when we had the chance,” Hinds coach Willie Fields said.
Darius Newton, who had 179 yards rushing on 27 carries, got Hinds to within 12-10 after scoring on a 2-yard run and ran in the two-point conversion.
Scott’s 65-yard TD run in the fourth quarter iced it.
Tensas Academy 40, Mt. Salus 16
Tensas (5-2, 4-0) won an 8-man football game Friday by scoring all 40 points in the first half. John Truman James had three touchdown passes of 56, 34 and 44 yards to lead Tensas.
