Violet Oakes Dickens

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Violet Oakes Dickens died Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Champaign, Ill. She was 91.

Mrs. Dickens was the daughter of Clifford and Wessie Oakes. She was a Vicksburg native and a former resident of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Dickens; and her sister, Selma Oakes Montgomery.

Survivors include Sherry Robinson of Champaign, Sister Paulinus Oakes of Jackson and other relatives.

Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park in Vicksburg under the direction of Morgan Memorial Home in Champaign.

Ava Claire MurryEmily Elise Murry

Services for Ava Claire Murry and Emily Elise Murry, infant daughters of Dr. Paul D. and Carolyn A. Murry of Vicksburg, were at 11 a.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Ava Claire died Thursday, July 31, 2008, and Emily Elise died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Woman’s Hospital in Jackson.

In addition to their parents, the babies are survived by a sister, Megan Heard of Vicksburg; and grandparents, Juliane Harmon and Jacqueline and Glen E. Murry.

Rosie Lee Williams

NATCHEZ – Rosie Lee Williams died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Crown Health and Rehab in Natchez. She was 88.

Mrs. Williams was born in Harriston to the late Alfred and Early Selmon Bradley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Williams; two brothers, Eddie Bradley and Horace Bradley; and four sisters, Josie Mae Harris Green, Ollie Mae Jenkins, Classie O’Quinn and Alma Smith.

Survivors include two sisters, Lugenia Scott of Vicksburg and Easter Earls of Fayette; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at R.D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home in Natchez. Burial will follow at Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Harriston.
