Texan jailed here for embezzlement stemming from Ameristar theft|CRIME & ACCIDENT

A Texas man was arrested Friday at 3 p.m. on charges of embezzlement stemming from a February theft at the Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St., Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Robert Barr, 48, 4011 Hollis St., Fort Worth, Texas, is accused of stealing a 12-inch gas cut-off saw valued at $2,500 from Industrial Project Services, which employed him during a construction project at the casino.

Barr was arrested by Fort Worth police after they pulled him over for a routine traffic stop and discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Stewart said.

Barr was in the Warren County Jail this morning with bond set at $10,000.

City woman charged for uttering forgery

Two Vicksburg women were arrested Saturday in two forgery cases.

In one case, Rebecca Liggett, 22, 711 Lake Forest Drive, was arrested at 6:45 p.m. at Riverfront Park on charges of uttering a forgery stemming from a November 2007 incident, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Liggett is accused of writing a $3,200 check on an account not belonging to her, Stewart said.

Liggett was released on $7,500 bond.

In the other case, Tamisha Stowers, 28, 128 Village Drive, was released on $30,000 bond after being charged with possession of a counterfeit instrument and two counts of uttering a forgery, according to Warren County Jail records.

TVs, CD player hot in weekend thefts

Electronic equipment and car batteries were among the items reported stolen in Vicksburg over the weekend, according to Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart and Warren County Jail records:

• A Sony AM/FM CD player was reported stolen Friday at 1:30 p.m. from a 1992 Cadillac in the 500 block of China Street.

• A 27-inch Sanyo television valued at $450 and a Hewlett Packard desktop computer valued at $699 were reported stolen Saturday at 5:12 a.m. in the 1200 block of Forrest Street.

• Car batteries valued at $80 each were reported stolen Saturday at 1:11 p.m. from a 2000 Toyota pickup and a 1999 Pontiac Firebird in the 4300 block of Tanglewood Drive.

• A 19-inch plasma television valued at $658, two purses valued at $300 each, a PlayStation 3 valued at $600 and an AM/FM stereo, value unknown, were reported stolen Saturday at 11:49 p.m. in the 70 block of Erves Lane.

• A purse valued at $50 and about $50 were reported stolen Sunday at 3:09 p.m. from a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero in the 1200 block of Washington Street.

City man released after treatment for injuries

A Vicksburg man was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said, after his vehicle struck a tree Saturday at 6:40 p.m. on U.S. 61 South near Redbone Road.

Francisco Gilberto, 25, 2300 Glass Road, Lot 21, had been taken to River Region Medical Center following the wreck, spokesman Allen Karel said.
