Tyson Adcock

MANGHAM, LA. – Funeral services for Tyson Adcock, 39, will be Monday, May 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Mangham, La., with the Rev. Paul Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery in Mangham. Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Tyson was born to John and Sandy Grove Adcock on Oct. 30, 1968, in Meridian and passed from this life on May 8, 2008. He was a wonderful person who had a big heart. He was also a very inventive person.

He was preceded in death by a son, Beau Franklin Parker; a daughter, Italy Grace Adcock; a brother, Johnnie Adcock; a stepbrother, Ricky Youmans; a grandmother, Berniece Adcock; and a grandfather, Chandler Adcock.

He is survived by his fiancee, Bobbie M. Parker of Mangham; his mother, Sandy Felts of Alliance, Ohio; his father and stepmother, John Tyson Adcock and Judy Adcock of Vicksburg; two sisters, Julie Jones of Vicksburg and Tonya Stephens of Alliance; a grandmother, Mae Vickers of Alliance; three nephews, Lindsey Wright, Chase Youmans, and Dustin Youmans; and two nieces, Jennifer and Amanda, both of Ohio.

Pallbearers will be Matt Brakefield, Glenn Brent, Stewart Lott, Jack Thompson, Shane Williamson and Mike Youmans.

Honorary pallbearer will be Lindsey Wright.

Sperry Emory Bartlett

Sperry Emory Bartlett, 87, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at home after an extended illness. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be said at St. Paul Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, with the Revs. Patrick Farrell, Michael O’Brien and Patrick Curley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home today, May 11, from 2 until 4 p.m. A prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m.

Born in Ripley, Miss., Mr. Bartlett had been a resident of Vicksburg for many years. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he retired from Waterways Experiment Station as a demolitions expert in the Nuclear Weapons Effects Division, where he was in charge of the Big Black River Test Site. As part of his responsibilities, he traveled extensively in the western United States and Canada performing explosives testing used to measure the durability of structures subjected to nuclear weapons. He also had his own landscaping business and nursery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Emory Bartlett and Harriet Adelaide Yancy Bartlett; and his seven brothers and sisters, Sam Bartlett, J.H. Bartlett, Marietta Rogers, Blanche McClellan, Lila Anderson, Mildred Johnson and Ernest Bartlett.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ellen Bartlett; and his four daughters, Deborah Clanton of Vicksburg and her husband, Butch, Cindi Osmolinski of Harrisburg, Pa., and her husband, John, Lisa Ratzlaff of Madison and her husband, Larry, and Julie Hale of Monroe, La., and her husband, Brian. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Blake Clanton and his wife, Becky, Blair Clanton McWhirter and her husband, Nik, Jonathan Osmolinski, Laura Osmolinski, Justin Osmolinski, Sarah Osmolinski, Christopher Ratzlaff, Bartlett Ratzlaff and Sperry Hale.

Pallbearers will be his five grandsons and his nephews, George Anderson and Eddie Johnson.

Thomas Dewey Hart

Thomas Dewey Hart died Friday, May 9, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 75.

Mr. Hart was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a tree surgeon and mechanic for McCain Tree Services for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin and Lethan Hart; and two sisters, Annie Lee Grear and Josephine Hart.

He is survived by three sisters, Doris Hill of Vicksburg, Lillian Harrison of Bastrop, and Betty Davis of Charlotte, N.C.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Capt. Patrick Lyons officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Monday.

Rufus M. Merriett

NEWELLTON – Funeral services for Rufus M. Merriett, 77, will be at 3 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at First United Pentecostal Church in Newellton. Burial will be at Merriett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Merriett was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Extension, La., in Franklin Parish. He lived in Tensas Parish for 40 years. He was a retired offshore toolpusher and farmer. He was also a Tensas Parish Police Juror and a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon G. Burnette Merriett; four sons, Rufus Anthony Merriett and his wife, April, of West Monroe, Todd Leland Merriett and his wife, Terrie, of St. Joseph, Jimmy Ray Merriett and his wife, Carolyn, of Walker, La., and Carl Leon Merriett and his wife, Faye, of Tickfaw, La.; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Nix of Denham Springs, La.; five grandsons, Steven Nix of Denham Springs, La., Blake Merriett of Baton Rouge, Jimmy Merriett Jr. of Walker, La., Christopher Todd Merriett of St. Joseph and Jon Anthony Merriett of West Monroe; three granddaughters, Ashley Ann Merriett and Shelby Rae Merriett, both of Calhoun, La., and Tonya Hughes of Lafayette, La.; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Howard Merriett, David Merriett, John Merriett, Jeffery Merriett, Heath Merriett and Kiah Van Burnette.

Jadon Miller

Services for Jadon Miller will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Christian Home No. 2 M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Johnnie Hughes officiating.

Visitation will be today at Williams Funeral Home from noon until 2 this afternoon and one hour before the service at the church.

Jadon died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home. He was 8.

He was a student at Beechwood Elementary School.

He is survived by his parents, Damond Caples and Shantelle Miller, both of Vicksburg; a stepfather, Stuart Thomas of Vicksburg; a brother, Ja’Quarien Smith of Atlanta; six sisters, Jakhalah Brown, Jarheon Brown, Janiah Miller, Amari Caples, Kiswanis Smith and Kadameria Caples, all of Dallas; his maternal grandparents, Diane Miller and Donald Winfield of Vicksburg and James and Neicy Barnes of Tallulah; his paternal grandparents, Edith Caples, Richard Caples and Eloise Caples, all of Vicksburg; his great-grandmothers, Geneva Miller of Bronx, N.Y., and Mary Watson of Vicksburg; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Winfield, Dillon, Watson, Clifton, Miller and Caples families.

Gary Lynn Saget

BRANDON – Gary Lynn Saget, 58, of Brandon died Friday, May 9, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Saget served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sikes and Mr. and Mrs. M.C. (Dean) Saget.

He is survived by his parents, Ellouise and Doug Saget of Brandon; two daughters, Kappi Jones and her husband, Alton, of Vicksburg, and Karri Saget of Houston; two grandchildren, Ashton and Finley Jones; his brother, Don Saget and his wife, Carol Ann, of Laurel; two nephews, Brad Saget, his wife, Lenore, and their children, Ellie and Lillie, and Craig Saget, his wife, Anita, and their children, Jessica and Jacob.

Visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2008, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Funeral services will be Monday, May 12, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lake Park Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Ken Regan officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brad Saget, Craig Saget, Alton Jones, Harold Gough, Robin Gough and Mickey Gough.
