Floyd Denson “Dinkey” Acuff

Services for Floyd Denson “Dinkey” Acuff will be at 2 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home until the hour of the service.

Mr. Acuff died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 33.

Mr. Acuff was born in Vicksburg to Joseph D. Acuff and Margie Partin Thomas. He had lived in Delta, La., for three years. He was of the Baptist faith, was employed by Hogan Construction Company and was a hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Acuff is survived by his wife, Beth Acuff; three sons, Michael, Aaron and Dustin; a daughter, Destany; four brothers, Joseph James Acuff, Raymond Acuff and Chris Acuff, all of Vicksburg, and Joseph D. Acuff of Delta; a sister, Ronada Acuff of Delta; and his stepparents, A.J. and Sally Graham.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Acuff, Raymond Acuff, Joseph Acuff Jr., John Smith, Chris Acuff, Thomas Wade, Timothy Harrison, Shane Acuff and Jason Vega.

Zenata Cain Evans

Zenata Cain Evans died today, July 28, 2008, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 55.

Born in Warren County, Mrs. Evans was reared in Fayette. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Sr. and Mary James Cain; and one brother, Horace Beverly.

She is survived by one son, Koury Terrell Evans of Vicksburg; two brothers, James Cain Jr. of Saginaw, Mich., and Larry Cain of Vicksburg; her companion, John Benard of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Arza R. Warner

Arza R. “Bob” Warner died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Warner was a native of Glen Allan and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 60 years. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers revetment sinking section. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Robbie Warner; and a sister, Evelyn Rose Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Betty N. Warner of Vicksburg; one daughter, Nasa Warner McManus and husband Truman of Terry; one brother, Carl Burton Warner of Tallulah; one sister, Glenda Long of Greenville; and one grandchild, Jennifer McManus of Terry.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Chapel with the Rev. Mickey Bounds officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight and from noon Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Tisdale, Jim Stevens, Don Gould, Larry Cannon, Randy Turcotte and William S. Cook Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne McMaster, Joe Gerache, Steve Cook Sr., Joe Crow, Mike Robinson, Dr. Lee Giffin, Dr. Robert Ford and the fifth-floor staff and employees of River Region Medical Center.

Edith R. Wilkerson

Edith R. Wilkerson died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vicksburg. She was 90.

Born in Hamburg, Ark., Edith attended high school outside of Rayville, La., graduating as salutatorian of her class. She attended Northeast Louisiana University, where she played basketball and received a bachelor of business administration degree.

In 1941, she moved to Vicksburg to manage the Joy Grand Theater on Washington Street, later the Joy Theater on Walnut Street, and then became the district manager for Joy Theaters. Edith later owned and operated Fabric Centers in downtown Vicksburg and Bastrop, La.

Edith loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. She always enjoyed and was amazed at the wonders of nature that she saw around her each and every day of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar F. and Ruby Estelle Ruff of Rayville; her sister, Charlotte N. Whitt of Vicksburg; her brothers, B. Doyle Ruff of Bastrop and Col. Jack P. Ruff of Greenwood; her husband, R.C. “Bob” Wilkerson Jr.; her stepson, Robert C. Wilkerson III; and grandson, Troy B. Baldwin.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Bounds and her daughter, Rosalye Wilkerson Baldwin, both of Vicksburg; a stepson, E.H. Bounds Jr. of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rayville Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

Officiating will be Dr. John G. McCall and Dr. Matt Buckles.

Pallbearers will be Harold Soverns, Jared Soverns, Dan Daily, Trent Baldwin, Paul Wood and Kirk Harper.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Daniel Edney, Jackie Brewer and the caring staff of Promise Specialty Hospital.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Vicksburg and the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society.
