Mary Lucy Canizaro

Mary Lucy Canizaro died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Brandon Court Nursing Home in Brandon. She was 89.

Born in Louisville, she was a former resident of Vicksburg and had been a resident of Jackson since 1956.

Mrs. Canizaro was the daughter of the late Wayne Jones and Amanda Coleman Jones. She was the widow of Vito Frank Canizaro.

Mrs. Canizaro was an accomplished seamstress and was known in her family circles for her cooking and baking. She was a devoted wife and a loving “grandmother” to all of her family. She was a good neighbor to all her friends.

Mrs. Canizaro attended the Little White Church in Louisville and St. Therese Catholic Church in Jackson.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Sarrett and her husband, Jackie, of Byram and Patricia Holder and her husband, Don, of Brandon; two sons, Pete Canizaro and his wife, Janys, of Brandon and David Canizaro and his wife, Jo, of Clinton; 12 grandchildren, Wendy Bell, Craig Sarrett, Lisa Lee, Traci Kelly, Mandy Dearman, Christi Ferguson, Amy Still, Angie Polk, Toni Tripp, Vito Canizaro, Christopher Holder and Daniel Holder; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Susie McKay of Vicksburg and Dina McKay of Louisville.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Jones Meyer; and two brothers, Lee Metz Jones and Walter W. Jones.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service. 

Pallbearers will be Ben Tripp, Marty Polk, Vito David Canizaro, Christopher Holder, Daniel Holder, Craig Sarrett, Kevin Ferguson and Caine Dearman.
