Johnny Felton PowellBAYTOWN, Texas – On May 2, 2008, Johnny Felton Powell, 77, was called home and granted peace and eternal life with our Heavenly Father. He was born July 11, 1930, in Columbia, Miss., to Adolf and Floy Powell as one of 10 children. He attended West Point Military Academy, where he played football before having to drop out to help support his family. He served in the U.S. Air Force and fought in the Korean War before settling in Baytown in 1971.

He enjoyed playing golf and watching sports, especially if his grandchildren were playing. But, most of all, he loved being with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Baytown.

He was a former resident of Vicksburg, where he was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents. and six brothers and sisters.

He is survived by three siblings, Wayne Powell of Mobile, Ala., Doyle Powell of Atlanta and Nina Reihing of Toledo, Ohio. He is also survived by his children, Julie Lee and her husband, Steven Lee, of Baytown, Deborah Olmstead and her husband, Curt Olmstead, of Friendswood, Texas, John D. Powell of Jackson, Miss., Brenda Lee Powell of Golden, Colo., and Gary Powell of Mobile; and grandchildren, Erica Witt, Lauren Olmstead, Ali Olmstead, Jaclyn Olmstead, Jared Lee, Scott Lee and Spencer Lee. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in Waynesboro, Miss.
