A 10-year-old boy who officials believe ran away from his Buford Drive home after a family argument Sunday was the subject of a widespread search this morning, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Deputies went door-to-door Sunday night in search of Daniel Rosas, Pace said.

The child, a student at Warrenton Elementary School, was reported missing Sunday night by his aunt, Claudia Isela Rosas, after leaving home around 10:30 a.m., Pace said. He had quarrelled with his aunt, with whom he lives, and left, she told investigators. The family began looking for him about an hour later, she said.

“With a 10-year old, we need to find him immediately,” Pace said.

Daniel is about 5 feet tall, weighs about 100 pounds and has black hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt and blue-jean shorts, but may have changed clothes, Pace said.

“It’s believed that at some point he had returned to the house because some of his personal items are missing — some family photos and possibly some clothing,” he said.

Daniel is not believed to have any money or a cell phone with him.

“At this point, we are not ruling out anything, but we have not had any indications of foul play,” Pace added.

Numerous area agencies have been notified, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol and neighboring parishes in Louisiana. In addition, the information has been entered into the National Crime Information Center, a computer law enforcement network.

Officials are urging the public to call 911 immediately if any information concerning Daniel or his whereabouts is known.

Daniel has lived in Vicksburg only a short time, Pace said, and has had disagreements with his aunt and left the home on other occasions, but not for this long. All of his nearest relatives live in Texas and Mexico.

Buford Drive lies just outside the city limits off U.S. 61 South.
