CRIME * From Staff Reports
A Vicksburg man sought by city and county law enforcement authorities is accused of three burglaries and an assault on a woman.
An arrest warrant issued Monday for Korey Sims, 26, 1704 Heather Drive, stems from the April 13 burglary of Vicksburg Body Shop at 4101-B Clay St. He is also a suspect in a burglary early Friday at Campbell Developments in which the offices at 3532 Manor Drive were ransacked, about $100 was taken and desks were damaged.
In Warren County, Sheriff Martin Pace said Sims is wanted for questioning about the burglary of the home of a Freetown Road woman who was assaulted. Pace said the victim, in her 50s, said she was attacked by a man who shattered a window to gain entry before assaulting her. After, he stole cash and a debit card before fleeing on foot, the woman told deputies.
In the body shop burglary, firearms valued at $5,000 and $30 were reported missing. The guns were a Remington .16-gauge shotgun, a Remington .12-gauge shotgun, a Remington 30.06 rifle, a Benelli .12-gauge shotgun, a Rossi .50-caliber muzzle loader, a 45/70 Handi rifle and two Remington .270 rifles.
Three arrested, charged with Halls Ferry burglary
One of three men arrested for a burglary Tuesday should have picked a spot farther from home, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Maurice Taylor, 22, 4808 Halls Ferry Road, was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. at Interstate 20 and Halls Ferry Road for a burglary that occurred about two blocks from his home. Pace said the victim, who lives in the 4600 block of Halls Ferry Road, had arrived home, noticed her house had been burglarized and also saw a familiar black Ford Mustang parked nearby.
“The victim was not only able to give us a description of the suspect, she knew him by name and knew that he drove the black Mustang,” Pace said.
That vehicle was spotted about an hour later near the interstate, and a traffic stop was made. Found in the vehicle was a DVD player with a CD made by the victim.
The two passengers, Michael Earl Holt, 18, 204 Melrose Ave., and Zachery Terrel Bryant, 20, 107 Sherman Ave., were also arrested. Deputies then went to Holt’s home and found the other stolen items, including a computer, a video camera and a laundry basket.
All three were charged with burglary and grand larceny and were being held in the Warren County Jail without bond pending their initial appearances in Warren County Justice Court, which were scheduled today, Pace said.
