Catherine Van Vrancken LaGarde died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Ormond Nursing & Care Center in Destrehan, La.

She was the beloved wife of the late Victor E. LaGarde Jr.; she was the mother of Victor E. LaGarde III of Vicksburg, Patricia L. Harris, Cathy L. Schlaudecker, the late Edward C. LaGarde Sr. and Ann L. Rodriguez. Her grandchildren include V. Justin LaGarde, Owen M. LaGarde, Dr. Thomas Emile LaGarde, Clare L. Sanders and Glynnis LaGarde; Edward LaGarde and Jamie L. Marquet; Burl Mahl, Brian Mahl and Ben Mahl; Raymond Schlaudecker, Robert Schlaudecker and Ryan Schlaudecker; Steven Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez and Tiffany Rodriguez; and the late Victor E. LaGarde IV and Michael Rodriguez. She is survived by numerous great-grandchildren.

Mrs. LaGarde was 95 years old; a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans; the daughter of Emily Thomas and John Van Vrancken Sr.; and sister of Christine Munster and the late John Van Vrancken Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass of the Resurrection at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Ave., in New Orleans at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12. Visitation prior to the Mass will be at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday. Following the Mass, interment will be at Metairie Cemetery.
