Carol Harrison Cartwright

TALLULAH — Funeral services for Carol Harrison Cartwright will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Tallulah Presbyterian Church, 409 Cleveland St. in Tallulah. A visitation will precede the services from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tallulah, under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Carol was born May 29, 1925, to John Carr and Mabel Duff Harrison. She grew up and attended school in Jonesboro, Ark., graduating from Jonesboro High where she was a twirler with the marching band. Carol graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree; she also minored in Spanish.
Carol worked for the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Resources Division of Children, Youth and Family Services. She had been with the department for 28 years, retiring in 1987 as a Social Service Specialist II. After retirement, she worked at McRae’s Department Store in Vicksburg for approximately 10 years until her illness.
Throughout her life, Carol was known for her kindness and giving attitude. Her No. 1 priority was always her family, whom she loved dearly.
Carol is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Finley and Nettie Cartwright of Lufkin, Texas; son, John H. Cartwright of Tallulah; daughter, Christy Bradley of Nacogdoches, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Joe Hord of Los Osos, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Brooke Bradley, Thomas K. Bradley, Benjamin M. Bradley, James McCready, Leigh Gass, Carol Hatcher and Lucas Hord. Additionally, she is survived by two great-grandchildren, Natalie Hussain and Reese Hatcher.
She was preceded in death by her son, Noah Grandy Cartwright IV, who died Sept. 18, 2008, of cancer. Also preceding her in death were her parents, John Carr and Mabel Duff Harrison; and her brother, John Harrison.
Pallbearers will be James Sevier, Thomas K. Bradley, Benjamin M. Bradley, James McCready and Kawez Hussain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tallulah Presbyterian Church, 409 Cleveland St., Tallulah, LA.
