Willie E. Hampton Jr.

PORT GIBSON — Willie E. Hampton Jr. died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 41.

Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his father, Willie E. Hampton Sr.; and his grandparents, Albert Smith, Wyne Hampton and Annie Bell Lee.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy M. Smith of Port Gibson; his wife, Lakendra Hampton of Killeen, Texas; two stepdaughters, LaDaisha Jackson and LaDeisha Jackson, both of Killeen; a stepson, LaDarrius Jackson of Killeen; three brothers, Karl Smith of Atlanta and Edward Lee Smith and Jeffrey Hampton, both of Port Gibson; four sisters, Felita Thompson, Renetta Hampton, Jennifer Hampton and Lawanda Hampton, all of Port Gibson; his maternal grandmother, Cora Ruth Smith of Port Gibson; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.

William Jackson

EDWARDS — William “Buddy” Jackson died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 93.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Betty Jackson of Edwards; two daughters, Virgie Keathley of Riverside, Calif., and Ethel Walton of Edwards; one sister, Mattie Baker of Detroit; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Arthur Morrow

Services for Arthur “Tanker” Morrow will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Morrow died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 64.

Mr. Morrow retired as a cemetery employee with the City of Vicksburg. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jonas Flagg; his mother, Selma Morrow; two brothers, Fred Cooper and Willie D. Flagg; and his paternal grandmother, Clementine Flagg Washington.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia James Morrow of Vicksburg; one son, Julius Morrow of Vicksburg; one daughter, Yolanda Morrow of Vicksburg; two brothers, James Earl Flagg Sr. of Edwards and Leonard Bracey of Philadelphia; eight sisters, Emma Lee Flagg, Maggielean Cassell and Bernice Robinson, all of Chicago, Janie Mae Pollard and Beulah Lee Green, both of Edwards, Odell Flagg Allen and Birda Mae Mace, both of Vicksburg, and Mildred Partan of Baton Rouge; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Rhodesia DeShazer and Yolanda Mitchell.

Lydia Beatrice Robinson

BOLTON — Services for Lydia “Beatrice” Robinson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hill of Zion M.B. Church in Bolton with the Rev. B.S. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Robinson died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 88.

Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker and a member of Hill of Zion M.B. Church of Bolton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Robinson; parents, Alfred Sanders Sr. and Cynthia Sanders; a sister; and four brothers.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Louise Young of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Phillips and Allen families of Edwards and Mason Robinson of Bolton.

Millie Mildred Hall Strong

Millie Mildred “Edie” Hall Strong died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 87.

Mrs. Strong was a member of China Grove M.B. Church. She was a former member and president of the church choir and the Warren County Institute/Convention choir.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Strong Jr.; her parents, Percy Sr. and Corrine Hall; eight sisters, Ruby Lucas, Ella Staley, Annie Mae Marley, Martha Mae Branch, Callie Allen, Daisy Mae Thomas, Fannie Evans and Mannie Mae Belton; two brothers, Cardell Hall and Earnest Lee Hall; and one grandson, Edward L. Wright.

She is survived by seven daughters, Henrietta Royster, Rachael Cage and Diana Strong, all of Vicksburg, Mildred Coard of Bowie, Md., Thelma Hill of Mitchellville, Md., Marie Strong of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Corean Strong of Danbury, Conn.; one son, Lamar Strong of Woodbridge, Va.; three sisters, Lureatha Moore, Mary Ellen Hall and Natalie Hall, all of Vicksburg; a brother, Percy Hall Jr. of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Annie Bell Thomas of Vicksburg.

Gertrude Jones Terrell

Services for Gertrude Jones Terrell will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church with the Rev. Herman Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Terrell died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.

Mrs. Terrell was a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church, serving on the Mother Board. She was a retired food service supervisor with Vicksburg Convalescent Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Haywood Terrell; one son, Robert Jones; three grandchildren, Pazdarlene Cosby, Cedric Jones and Pandelia Jones; and her parents, Carey White Sr. and Parzettia White Thomas.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Jones and Isiah Jones, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Gertrude Cosby of Detroit and Peggy Watson Adams of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Hall, Taylor and Wright families.

Frances Dillard Wright

Services for Frances Dillard Wright will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. until the service.

Mrs. Wright died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Promise Hospital of Vicksburg. She was 88.

She was a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church, where she was former treasurer and recording secretary. She retired from Vicksburg Laundry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garfield Wright Sr.; her parents, Alfred Sr. and Mary Dillard; two sons, Stanley Wright and Arthur Wright; one daughter, Mary Lloyd Jemison; three brothers, Alfred Dillard Jr., Alvin Dillard and Adolph Dillard; and two sisters, Lucille Williams and Rosalie Dillard.

Survivors include two sons, Garfield Wright Jr. of Vicksburg and James Wright of Dallas, Texas; four daughters, Dolores Hicks of Aurora, Ill., Patricia McDougal of Greenbelt, Md., Margaret Singleton of Oak Park, Ill., and Betty Wright Carter of Baton Rouge; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives, including Dorothy Dillard and Bessie Dillard.
