Retired Warren Central High teacher tapped to run MC art gallery|[06/11/08]

Randy Jolly has been named director of Mississippi College’s Gore Galleries, home to Southern works as well as pieces by Mississippi College’s art students.
Jolly joined MC after spending 27 years teaching art at Warren Central High School, where he served as the head of the fine arts department and taught ceramics and photography. Jolly retired this year.”I’m really excited about this new challenge and direction in my career in art,” Jolly said. “We’re going to use the galleries as an educational tool, as well as use them to draw Clinton and Mississippi College together as a whole.”Gore Galleries consists of three galleries – a permanent collection, a community and regional collection and a student collection.If you goA welcome reception for Randy Jolly will be from 6 until 8 p.m. June 19. Hours of operation at The Gore Galleries are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 a.m. until noon Fridays. For information, call 601-925-3231.Public school students from Clinton and Warren County have made trips to the campus to see the galleries that Jolly calls “Clinton’s biggest jewels,” and he plans to lengthen the list of visitors for the upcoming academic year. Jolly also hopes to make the public more aware of Gore Galleries, both in the Jackson area and around the state.The gallery is named after Dr. Samuel Marshall Gore, an internationally recognized artist and a graduate of MC. Gore also taught at the Baptist college. The gallery contains many of Gore’s pieces as well as work by Wyatt Waters, Kenneth Quinn and Marie Hull – all Mississippi artists.
