Grover Chambliss Sr.

Services for Grover Chambliss Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Dilion-Chisley Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service Friday at the church.

Mr. Chambliss Sr. died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008. He was 93.

He was born in Scott, Miss. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working on the M.V. Jadwin dredge unit for more than 40 years. He was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church.

Mr. Chambliss was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Luenetta Chambliss; five brothers, David Chambliss, Claude Chambliss, A.B. Chambliss, Earl Chambliss and Randolph Chambliss; two sisters, Genora Hoffman and Annie Bell Felton; one daughter, Lucille Williams; and a grandson, Willie “Pal” Jordan.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Stewart Chambliss of Vicksburg; one son, Grover Chambliss Jr. of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Ruby Chambliss Burks and Barbara Chambliss Daniels, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Homer Chambliss of Los Angeles and Bernard Chambliss of Fayette; two sisters, Lula White of Fayette and Essie Chambliss of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Humes family.
