“Serving Up Hope” is the theme of this year’s 29th annual Soup & Sandwich Luncheon sponsored by the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.
The event is set for Tuesday at Crawford Street United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be a bake sale and a silent auction of items donated by local businesses and individuals.
New this year will be a Christmas Angel Tree with “angels” ready for adoption and tree ornaments for sale.
Soup of the day will be Homemade Vegetable Beef Soup and the sandwich accompanying the soup will be Pimiento Cheese.
Tickets for the luncheon are $6, and are available now by calling Kathy Jones at 601-638-5931 or 601-529-8500 or Sue Tolbert at 601-638-3492 or 601-529-7574. No tickets will be sold at the door, and people are encouraged to get their tickets early.
“This year’s theme, Serving Up Hope, underlines the general feeling that some desire or need will be fulfilled,” luncheon chairman Sue Tolbert said. “The funds raised have a huge impact on the hope level of our community. Children who otherwise would not have the hope of enjoying a summer camp experience are given the reality of the life-changing hope.
“Grandparents, grandchildren, the jobless, the homeless, the downtrodden are provided the hope that a hot meal gives through the Salvation Army Mission 66 Dinner five days a week. Hundreds of children are given the hope of a better day through the angel tree program. Families are provided hope through tough times, and students are given confidence and hope of a better future through the after-school tutoring program. Flood and hurricane victims are provided assistance, supplies and hot meals.”
