Gators throttle Lanier

Malcolm Butler and Les Lemons each scored two touchdowns and the Gators (6-2, 4-1) dismantled Lanier 49-0 on the Bulldogs’ homecoming at Hughes Field in Jackson.
The Gators, currently in second place in Region 3-4A, are scheduled to play at Canton next Friday night before finishing the regular season at home against Ridgeland on Halloween night.
Butler scored on a 50-yard run and also returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown as the Gators took a 35-0 halftime lead. Lanier only made it across the 50 yard line twice in the game, once on its opening possession.
Lemons, the Gators quarterback, scored on runs of 20 and 35 yards and Jeremy Hamlin added a 50-yard touchdown run.
Antonio Norfort scored on a 5-yard touchdown and reigning Vicksburg Post Defensive Player of the Year Carlos Williams recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
Patrick Parker went 7-for-7 on extra point kicks for the Gators.
St. Aloysius 24, St. Joe 17
Chris Lewis ran for three touchdowns, including both touchdowns in overtime, to lead the Flashes to a dramatic victory over Madison-St. Joe to reclaim the Strauss-Stallings Trophy.
It was the 46th meeting between the Catholic school rivals dating back to 1952. The Bruins (2-6) won last year’s game 33-7 to capture the trophy, but on Friday, the Flashes took it back.
The teams went into overtime tied at 10. Madison had the ball first and scored, then Lewis responded with a 6-yard touchdown run. Adam Thornton’s extra point tied the game at 17.
In the second overtime, the Flashes (6-2) got the ball first and scored on an 11-yard TD run by Lewis. Thornton’s kick made it 24-17. On the Bruins’ possession, the Flashes intercepted a pass to secure the victory.
Lewis rushed for 161 yards on 22 carries and also had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Flashes went into the break with a 7-3 lead.
Thornton booted a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter for a 10-3 lead. The Bruins scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
Hinds AHS 39, Wesson 14
Darious Newton ran for 239 yards on 22 carries, scored on touchdown runs of 7 and 34 yards, and also threw a touchdown to lead the War Dawgs (6-2) to a huge win over Wesson.
Jeremy Lee also scored two rushing touchdowns, caught a touchdown and had an interception in the victory.
Keeslee Stewart also scored on a 40-yard touchdown runfor Hinds AHS.
Tallulah 34, SIA 6
Cody Landrem ran 15 times for 145 yards and scored three touchdowns as Tallulah Academy blistered Sharkey-Issaquena Academy.
Landrem scored on runs of 30, 16 and 19 yards and the Trojans held a 20-0 halftime lead.
Justin Horath scored on a 2-yard run and Coco Issac scored in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard run.
Briarfield 56, N. Sunflower 6
Jacob Hopkins ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead Briarfield (6-2). He finished with 123 yards rushing on 16 carries.
Nathan Brown, Blake Lovell and Jeffrey Graham all had TD runs, and Gabe Lensing returned an interception for a score. Graham kicked eight extra points.
Tensas 54, Kemper 6
J.T. James ran for two scores and threw for three touchdowns as Tensas defeated Kemper Academy in 8-man football.
James finished 8-for-18 passing with 211 yards. Mitch Lansing caught five passes for 145 yards and two scores.
