A Vicksburg hotel employee was held by Vicksburg police on forgery charges.

Ursula Harper, 42, whose last known address was 2001 Grove St., No. 535, was arrested at 10:04 a.m. Thursday and charged with five counts of uttering a forgery, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Charges stem from reports of missing checkbooks belonging to guests at Holiday Inn Express, 4330 S. Frontage Road, where Harper worked as a housekeeper, reports said. Further investigation revealed five checks totaling $2,250 from the guests’ personal accounts were written, Williams said. The arrest followed tips to police leading them to another motel on East Clay Street where Harper was staying.

Harper was held on $10,000 bond. Police have not ruled out additional charges, pending further investigation, Williams said.

GPS system, DVD players among missing items

Two burglaries were reported Thursday in Vicksburg.

A GPS tracking system, a tool bag containing various tools and binoculars were reported missing at 9:02 a.m. from a Ford F-250 pickup in the parking lot at Motel 6, 4127 I-20 Frontage Road.

Two DVD players and a 27-inch TV were reported missing from a home in the 4000 block of North Washington Street.

Woman treated, released after four-vehicle wreck

A Vicksburg woman was treated and released Thursday after the vehicle in which she and her family were traveling was involved in a four-car wreck on South Frontage Road.

Jasmine Culbertson, 28, 114 Choctaw Circle, was a passenger in a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by her husband, Anthony S. Culbertson, also 28. The Culbertsons’ truck was rear-ended by a 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer driven by Angela L. Carle, 29, 196 Warriors Trail, which had failed to stop behind a string of vehicles waiting for the front car to make a left turn into a business parking lot at about 11:30 a.m., Vicksburg Police officer David Gladney said.

After Culbertson’s vehicle was hit by Carle, Gladney said, Culbertson’s Blazer rear-ended a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Dustin B. Simmons, 27, 104 Rebel Drive, and that vehicle hit a 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by Mark S. Smith, 40, 196 Fairways Drive.

Also in the Culbertsons’ truck were their daughters, Tori, 4, and Madison, 1.

Carle said she did not see the line of cars in time to stop, Gladney said.

No citations had been issued.
