Vicksburg extended its second-round Class 4A series with Oxford to a third game after beating the Chargers 9-2 Friday night.

The Game 2 win will force a third and deciding Game 3 tonight at 6 at Oxford High.

Ace Gator pitcher Stanton Price won his third playoff game in less than a week, scattering six hits in seven innings. Price (8-1) gave up two runs, one earned, and two walks, and struck out four.

He beat Neshoba Central twice in a three-day span in a first-round series last week, then kept the Gators alive on Friday.

“Any time we have Stanton on the mound we feel like we are pretty tough to beat,” Vicksburg coach Jamie Creel said. “He is a warrior at the plate and a warrior on the field. He showed a lot of guts after throwing 14 innings this past weekend. He is probably the best manager on the mound I have ever seen. He does a great job controlling the game for us and he has been doing that for us for four years now.”

Stanton PricePrice got his run support behind 13 hits, including three from Blake Hynum.

Vicksburg (24-7) got production throughout its lineup but it was Hynum, who ranks third in Warren County in hitting, who had the big game.

His three-run home run highlighted a four-run fifth inning as the Gators broke open the game. Hynum also had a double and a single. All three of his RBIs came off the home run.

Price helped his cause with two hits, including a double. Kurt Cooksey drove in two off a single. Trey Prentiss had two hits, to give him four in the series. Ryan Ferrington also had two hits to match Prentiss and Bowen Woodson with four hits in the series.

Grenada 14, WC 2

Grenada belted out 16 hits to beat Warren Central in five innings at the DeSoto Central Regional Friday afternoon.

The Vikings (9-19) face an elimination game today at 1 against Grenada. The Chargers (13-8) lost to DeSoto Central 5-4 in eight innings Friday night.

Grenada built a 7-0 lead after three innings against WC starter Jonathan Longmire. They got two runs in the fourth to trim it to 7-2 but the Chargers put it away with seven runs in their half of the fourth to go up 14-2.

Adam Lee had two hits, including a double to lead the Vikings.
