Norma Lynn Carter

Services for Norma Lynn Carter will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Carter died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 55.

Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Carter was a 1970 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and a graduate of Alcorn State University. She retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District, having taught for 25 years at Warren Central High School, and was teaching at McCall High School in Tallulah.

She was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church in the LeTourneau community, where she served on the mother board and was director of the youth ministry. She was a member of Honeysuckle Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Creather Winger and Elijah “Babe Ruth” Knight Sr.; and one brother, Elijah Knight Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Carter Sr. of Vicksburg; two sons, Larry Carter Jr. of Vicksburg and Daven Carter of Louisville, Texas; one daughter, Dionne Carter Smith of Vicksburg; her stepfather, John Winger of Vicksburg; three brothers, Willie Lynn of Wichita, Kan., and Jimmy Hester and Jetheral Knight, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Susan Brown, Lelia Stamps, Blanche Knight and Jacqueline Knight, all of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Gregory Walker of Wiesbaden, Germany.
