A reward has been established by the family of a Port Gibson man for information leading to an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run accident.

Christopher C. Vinson, 19, 3028 U.S. 61 North, was killed Sept. 23 when family members discovered his body in a median on U.S. 61 South just south of Glass Road at 9:05 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene of head and body trauma.

Glass and other bits of debris were found at the scene by authorities, none of which initially indicated what type of vehicle struck Vinson.

“We don’t have an arrest yet,” Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Sgt. James Walker said. “It’s still under investigation.”

Vinson had been a passenger in a vehicle driven by his mother, Angela Bufkin. Authorities have maintained the two argued before pulling over at a roadside grocery.

Details sought include vehicle make and model, tag number and information on the driver. Bufkin may be contacted at 601-529-8729 with any vital information. A Web site containing additional contact information has also been established at www.christophervinson.info.

Vinson was an employee of Hercules Offshore Inc.

The accident was the fifth fatality involving a motor vehicle in Warren County in 2008. Four have occurred outside Vicksburg’s city limits.
