Registration has begun for the Vicksburg Warren School District’s 2008-09 academic year. The first day of school will be Aug. 4.

To enter kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2008. Two proofs of residency, a Social Security card, a certified birth certificate and immunization records are required for new students of all ages.

“Please enroll kindergartners early,” said Superintendent James Price.

The VWSD has seven elementary schools, two intermediate schools, two junior highs and two high schools and is adding another school to its roster with the reopening of Bovina Elementary. The school off Interstate 20 had been closed for eight years. Price said letters were being mailed this week to let parents in the Bovina zone know if their child will attend the school. Bovina students will come from Beechwood and Sherman Avenue elementaries and Warren Central Intermediate.

Parents who receive a Bovina letter can register their child at the VWSD’s central office on Mission 66.

Open registration for the district’s magnet school, Bowmar Avenue Elementary, has passed.

Registration is from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily at each school. The last day of school is May 22. For zone information, call the district office at 601-638-5122.
