VCC hosting golf tournaments

• A four-ball tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Deadline to register is Thursday.

• The Fall Couples Mixer tournament is set for Oct. 11-12. Deadline to register is Oct. 9.

Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association report

Last Wednesday and Saturday, the ladies of Clear Creek played a game of “Odd Front-Even Back.” Pam Thomas won the A flight, Wanda Caruthers won the B flight, Linda McHann won the C flight and Vi Krisker won the D flight.

Chip-ins were made by Krisker and Caruthers.

Under-19 girls

Clinton 4, WAV United 2 – Dana Warnock scored a goal from 20-yards out and Shannon Richter scored on an assist from Kayla Kelly in the WAV’s loss.

Under-12 

C&C Satellite 2, Clinton Bombich 1 – Hayle Prescott scored two goals on assists from Caroline Williams to lead the VSO team to a victory. Goalie Kiely McMaster blocked several attempts by Clinton to score.

VSO McDaniel Roofing 6, Clinton 1 – Sara McDaniel, Nicole Hayward and Shelby Bottin each scored two goals in the VSO rout of Clinton. Assists were recorded by Jessica Hurley, McDaniel, Hayward and Bottin. Goalie Macy Claire Joseph only allowed one score. Sara Andrews and Lia Cook were highlighted for outstanding game.

McDaniel Roofing 7, Clinton Sturgis 1 – Jessica Hurley, Sara McDaniel and Nicole Hayward each scored two goals, and Shelby Bottin added one in the VSO victory.

Under-10 Girls. 

Cowart Construction 8, Roy’s Construction  1 – Hailey Smith and Emily Adcock each scored two goals, while Abby Grant, Lauren Summerlin, Jala Tousant and Amber Meade each scored a goal in the win.

Da’Sha McGloster had the lone goal in the loss.

RiverHills Bank 7, C&W Homes 1 – Amanda Boleware and Natalie McCormick led RiverHills with two goals each. Drew Barnes, Kristen Martin and Mackenzie Keller each tallied a goal in the victory. Katelyn Morson scored the lone goal in the loss.

Thomas Dental Excellence 3, Vicksburg Optimist 3 – Virgie Demby netted three goals for Thomas Dental and Mikayla Banks scored a hat-trick for Vicksburg Optimist in the tie.

RiverHills Bank 7, Cowart Construction 0 – Drew Barnes and Amanda Boleware led the scoring with two goals each for RiverHills Bank, while Ansley Plunk, Kristen Martin and Natalie McCormick had one goal each.

Thomas Dental Excellence 7, Roy’s Construction 0 – Jaime Gilliam, Sierra Shelton and Megan Stewart had two goals each, while Morgan Stewart scored once for Thomas Dental Excellence.

C&W Homes 4, Vicksburg Optimist 3 – Katelyn Morson scored every goal for C&W, while Mikayla Banks tallied three goals for Vicksburg Optimist.

Under-8 Girls 

Team 5 6, Neill Gas 5 – For Neill Gas, Laney Smith had a hat trick with three goals, Sara Wigley had a goal and Gracie Hasty netted a goal in the loss. Laken Stockstill was singled out for great defense. Scoring for Team 5 was unavailable.

Neill Gas 5,  Vicksburg Kiwanis 3 – Laney Smith had another hat trick with three goals, while Sara Wiggley and Maddie Watkins had one each in the win. Laney Whitten and Lacey Garner each had assists.

VSO Strikers fall in semifinals

The under-14 VSO Strikers Boys team won two games on Saturday and advanced to the semifinals of the Pearl Fall Fesitival Soccer Tournament before losing in the semis to Richalnd TAZ on a late goal.

In Game 1, played early Saturday morning in the rain, VSO defeated Clinton 2-0. Steven Cialone scored the first goal for the Strikers on a direct free kick. Paul Willingham scored the second goal with an assist from Chandler Bounds.

In Game 2, VSO fell to Pearl 5-1. Michael Mason scored the lone goal for the Strikers with an assist by Chris Green.

In the final game Saturday, VSO shut out Northwest Rankin, scoring three goals and advancing into the semifinals on Sunday. Chandler Bounds scored three goals for the Strikers.

In the semifinal on Sunday, VSO played tough against Richland TAZ. But, with only two minutes left to play in a scoreless match, TAZ sneaked one past the VSO goalie and went on to win the game 1-0.

Junior prep

Giants 16, Bulls 12 – Fred Barum scored on a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to lead the Giants to the win. Colin Standish and Gage Ederington also scored touchdowns for the Giants, and Keonte Lumpkin had a 2-point conversion. James Allen scored on a 60-yard run for the Bulls.

Bears 7, Bulldogs 0 – Joseph Johnson’s 50-yard TD run in the first quarter stood up as the game-winner for the Bears.

Rockets 35, Tigers 8 – Shokey Shaw scored on a 38-yard run and a 55-yard reception as the Rockets routed the Tigers. Taylor Wood returned a kickoff 50 yards for a TD, Brice Wood caught a 35-yard TD pass, and Cedric Kelly scored on a 50-yard run for the Rockets. Cedric Taylor and Shaw also had 2-point conversions.

Jadarius Croskey scored the Tigers’ lone touchdown on a 65-yard run, and Mikeal Bell added the conversion.

Senior prep

Bulls 21, Flashes 7 – Darrick Carson ran for a pair of touchdowns and Alex Stevens scored on a 12-yard run to lead the Bulls to the victory. Connor Smith returned a kickoff 75 yards for the Flashes’ touchdown.

Saints 21, Rockets 7 – Lane Hynum had a pair of TD runs, and Rett Verhine added a 2-yard plunge for the Saints. Deonte Spates’ 70-yard kickoff return was the Rockets’ only score.

Bulldogs 7, Bears 0 – DeMichael Harris’ first-quarter touchdown run was the game’s only score.

Shoot for Scouts scheduled for Oct. 16

The 2008 Shoot for Scouts and Auction will be Oct. 16 at Kearney Park in Flora. The clay shoot and silent auction will begin at noon, with a five-stand practice range session.

Cost is $5 per round. Check-in for the clay shoot starts at 1 p.m., and the shoot starts at 3. Sponsorships are also available.

All proceeds benefit the Andrew Jackson Council of the Boys Scouts of America.

St. Aloysius hosts “A” Club golf tourney

The St. Aloysius “A” Club will host its annual golf tournament Oct. 8 at Clear Creek Colf Course. The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The cost is $85 for individuals or $340 per team and includes cart, greens fee, beverages, food and one mulligan.

Awards will be given for longest drive and closest to the pin, as well as to the top finishers in each flight. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each.
