Nashville guitarist to play at SCHC, teach seminar
The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation will present a guitar workshop and concert by Nashville artist Johnny Bellar.
The seminar, which costs $150, will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday at the Academy Building. A free concert will be at 7 that night in the auditorium.
Bellar plays the resophonic guitar – an acoustic instrument played with a metal slide – and the lap steel guitar. He is a regular on the television program “Nashville Now” and the Grand Ole Opry.

Jennifer Anne Moses to read, sign at Lorelei
Jennifer Anne Moses will be at Lorelei Books at 2 p.m. Saturday. She will read from her memoir, “Bagels and Grits: A Jew on the Bayou.” A book-signing will follow.
Her paintings will also be on display and available for purchase.

Traveling exhibit headed to SCHC
The Mississippi Art Colony Traveling Exhibit is headed to the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.
An opening reception is set for May 13 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Academy Building. The free exhibit will continue through June 10 during regular business hours, which are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
Since 1948, the Mississippi Art Colony, based in Utica, has brought together artists and instructors to create, study and critique each other’s works. It is the oldest of its kind in the nation, drawing on artists in varied media from Mississippi and neighboring states.

Raymond Country Fair set for coming weekend
The Raymond Country Fair will be Saturday and will kick off at 6:30 a.m. It will coincide with the final day of the jet rally at John Bell Williams Airport north of town.
Booths will be set up at each location with information and directions to the neighboring events, 3 miles apart and accessible from Clinton-Raymond Road.
Activities will include a 5K/10K Cannonball Run, Mini Ball 1-mile Fun Run and arts and crafts.

Youth orchestra to perform show
The Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra will present a concert today at 3 p.m. in the F.D. Hall Music Center at Jackson State University.
