Three teens jailed in armed robbery at Solly’s

Three Vicksburg teens were in custody Saturday night, charged in the armed robbery of Solly’s Hot Tamales, 1921 Washington St., Vicksburg Police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
No injuries were reported.
Arel Williams, 16, 2808 Yerger St., Darryl Williams, 15, 1312 Bowmar Ave., and Samuel Matthews, 18, 204 Kendra Drive, were charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime. They were being held in Issaquena County Jail pending their initial appearance in court Monday.
Police received a call at 1:11 p.m. Saturday that the shop had been robbed and were provided with a description of the teens. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
The juveniles are being charged as adults, accused of committing a violent crime with a weapon, which was not identified.
Charges against Pearl man upgraded to trafficking
A Pearl man arrested Friday for possession of stolen firearms faces additional and more serious charges, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Saturday.
The charges against Edward Carroll Walker, 42, 103 Harle Circle, will be upgraded to trafficking in stolen firearms and also include an additional Warren County charge for a Gowall Road burglary Nov. 3.
On Friday, Walker was stopped by deputies on U.S. 61 North, just south of Mississippi 3. He was in possession of rifles, shotguns, jewelry, lawn tools and other stolen goods, including a trailer carrying a riding lawn mower stolen from a Yazoo County residence.
In addition to the upgraded charge, Walker was charged with grand larceny and burglary related to thefts in Warren, Yazoo and Hinds counties. Pace said Saturday that a Madison County burglary also has been tied to Walker, with the guns seized Friday having come from there.
Walker’s previous record is being investigated for possible felony convictions, Pace added, with the possibility of additional charges being filed.
Detainers have been placed on Walker for both Madison and Yazoo counties.
N.C. resident charged with cheating at casino
A North Carolina man was arrested early Saturday morning at Ameristar Casino, charged by the Mississippi Gaming Commission with felony cheating and felony past posting.
Mohammed Bryant-El, 701 George St., Oriental, was released on $5,000 bond.
City woman charged over controlled substance
A Vicksburg woman was arrested by the Vicksburg Police Department Friday at 4 p.m, charged with the sale of controlled substance.
Juanita Sims, 43, 3023 N. Washington St., was released on $1,000 bond.
No details of the charge were available.
Inmate attacks jailer in escape attempt
A Vicksburg man in the Warren County Jail for receiving stolen property attacked a jail officer Friday and will face additional charges, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Colton Branning, 18, 118 Robert E. Lee Blvd., will be charged with assaulting a jail officer and attempted escape. He was arrested Tuesday in the theft and transfer of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala that belonged to the U.S. Army.
