A Vicksburg man in the Warren County Jail on murder charges in a fatal shooting on June 8 will remain there without bond until a grand jury considers his case, a judge ruled Wednesday night.

Eric Campbell, 27, 503 Fairground St., had been returned to the Warren County Jail on Tuesday after charges of aggravated assault against him were upgraded upon the death of David Becker, 26, 712 Speed St.

Becker died Sunday at University Medical Center in Jackson, where he had been treated since he and his roommate, Lee Sherman Yates, 42, were shot while standing on their front porch. Yates was treated and released from River Region Medical Center after being shot in the foot.

Municipal Judge Lewis Burke denied bond for Campbell, two days after granting a $100,000 bond for Antonio Glasper, 22, 74 Redhawk Road, who also is charged with murder in the shooting. Burke cited Glasper’s clean record in granting his bond. It was not known why Campbell was held without bond.

Campbell and Glasper initially were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and other crimes about 12 hours after the shooting. Glasper had remained in jail since his arrest.

After the charges were upgraded, police could not immediately find Campbell, who surrendered on Tuesday. He had been free on a $95,000 bond.

Police said the shooting followed a fight near Speed and Hunt streets, a block from Becker and Yates’ home. Police said that the fight involved one of the victim’s juvenile sons. In addition to murder, each faces one count of aggravated assault, drive-by shooting and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
