Bond has been set at $100,000 for a Forest man suspected of robbing BancorpSouth on Indiana Avenue and South Frontage Road Dec.18.
Timothy Gandy, 41, was in the Warren County Jail this morning following his initial court appearance Wednesday before City Judge Walterine Langford.
Gandy was arrested Dec. 19 by Hattiesburg police and Mississippi Bureau of Investigations agents at a Hattiesburg hotel. Police said his most recent driver’s license listed 11352 Mississippi 21, Forest, as his address but a resident said he has not lived there in years.
Gandy also is suspected of robbing a BancorpSouth branch in Hattiesburg barely 24 hours before the robbery here.
Vicksburg police investigators confirmed Gandy is a former law enforcement officer with three agencies in two states, including Biloxi police, Jackson police and the Jefferson Parish (La.) Sheriff’s Office.
No employees or customers at BancorpSouth were injured in the robbery, in which the suspect produced a handgun and demanded cash from the teller, then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Surveillance tapes at the bank identified Gandy as police compared clothing he wore during the holdup and said his appearance was nearly identical.
The Vicksburg bank robbery was the fourth of the year for Warren County, with three of the four occurring inside the city.
