MLK resident shot; suspects sought|[07/15/08]

A shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard this morning left a Vicksburg man hospitalized and police looking for suspects.

At 12:12 a.m., police responded to the home of Clarence Perkins, 41, 1501 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and found the resident shot once in the right leg, Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Perkins was listed in fair condition at River Region Medical Center this morning, a hospital spokesman said. Stewart did not release further details of the shooting, saying only that police were still looking for suspects.

City man at UMC after motorcycle crash

A Vicksburg man remains hospitalized in Jackson after he was involved in a weekend wreck on Redbone Road.

Jay Brown, 20, 460 Burnt House Road, was listed in fair condition at University Medical Center this morning, a hospital spokesman said.

According to accident reports, Brown’s motorcycle collided with a car in the 600 block of Redbone Road at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Brown was taken to River Region Medical Center and was later transferred to Jackson.

No other injuries were reported.

Auto burglaries reportedat three city casinos

Three auto burglaries were reported at three Vicksburg casinos Monday, and police believe they’re connected.

The first burglary was reported at 2:37 p.m. at Ameristar Casino, 4146 Washington St. Reported missing from a 2007 Ford F-150 was a Dell laptop computer valued at $900 and a Brother fax machine valued at $250. Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said entry into the truck was gained by forcing open one of its doors.

Less than an hour later, police responded to DiamondJack’s Casino, 3990 Washington St. There they found a burglarized 2000 Ford Expedition. Stewart said entry was gained by unknown means. Reported missing were three pairs of khaki shorts and a pair of denim shorts. The total value was listed at $45.

Then at 5:02 p.m. at Rainbow Casino, 1380 Warrenton Road, a purse containing $40 and other items was reported stolen from a 2000 Buick Century. Again, Stewart said, entry was gained by prying open a door.

Stewart said he believes the burglaries are connected, but no suspect had been identified.

In other burglaries reported in the city Monday:

A Scagg 52-inch riding lawn mower was reported missing from a home in the 400 block of Warren Street. The mower was valued at $5,900. Police received the report at 10:48 a.m.

At 4:05 p.m., an auto burglary was reported at Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 2150 Iowa Blvd. Reported missing from a 2000 Ford F-150 was a .22 caliber Beretta pistol valued at $300.

Truck reported stolen from Pemberton motel

A truck was reported missing from a Vicksburg motel Monday, police said.

At 5:19 p.m., a 2007 Ford F-250 4×4 was reported missing from the Super 8 at 3308 Pemberton Square Blvd. Vicksburg Police Lt. Bobby Stewart said the vehicle had a Louisiana tag, but he did not have the number.
