A man wanted on a misdemeanor charge ran from Warren County deputies Monday night, sending them and a tracking dog into the woods for hours.

Sheriff Martin Pace said the man was stopped for a traffic violation at about 10:45 p.m. on Mississippi 27, then arrested when a check of his name and other identifying information showed the Vicksburg Police Department had a warrant for his arrest for an unpaid fine, a misdemeanor.

As the deputy waited to deliver the man to Vicksburg authorities, he bolted from the county cruiser and ran into woods near the city-county line at East Clay Street and Mississippi 27.

Pace said deputies and the dog searched Monday night and resumed the hunt this morning.

No second arrest had been made by midmorning.

The suspect was not identified because the charge is a misdemeanor.

Two treated, released after weekend wrecks

Two weekend wrecks injured two people.

At 9:25 a.m. Saturday, George Grey, 47, Mount Alban Road, was injured in a two-car wreck in the 4400 block of Clay Street.

He was treated and released from River Region Medical Center, spokesman Allen Karel said.

In the second wreck, at 3:12 a.m. Sunday, Annie Harried, 46, 2722 River Road, Fayette, was injured in a two-car wreck in the 1700 block of U.S. 61 South.

She, too, was treated and released, Karel said.

Investigative reports on the wrecks were not available.
