Creel, Price honored as Class 4A’s best|[05/25/08]

Stanton Price and Jamie Creel led Vicksburg High’s baseball team
into the Class 4A state championship series and were honored as co-player and co-coach
of the year as picked by the Crossroads Diamond Club.
Vicksburg third baseman Bowen Woodson was honored as a firstteam Class 4A pick. Ryno Martin-Nez earned first-team Class 1A allstate honors as an infielder.
East Central coach Gary Long and pitcher Phillip Byrd shared the top Class 4A award with the Gators pair. East Central defeated Vicksburg in two straight games in the state championship series.
Price hit .467 with nine home runs, 14 doubles and 43 RBIs. On the mound, he went 11-2 with a 1.35 ERA and 101 strikeouts.
Martin-Nez hit .438 with three homers. He went 8-3 as a pitcher with a 1.68 ERA and 94 strikeouts.
Vicksburg’s Trey Prentiss and Blake Hynum were Class 4A second-team selections, and St. Al catcher Sean Weaver and outfielder Pierson Waring were Class 1A second-team picks.
