Ethel Massey Ammons

PORT GIBSON — Ethel Massey Ammons, 90, died at home on April 21, 2008. Visitation is from 5 until 7 tonight, April 22, at Ruth Ann Drake’s home at 709 Church St. in Port Gibson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Port Gibson Baptist Church with burial at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Ethel came to Port Gibson in 1935 as the bride of John Howell Ammons. She was employed for 30 years with BellSouth working in the Port Gibson and Natchez offices. After retiring from BellSouth, she worked for Mississippi Power & Light for five years. She spent her retirement years working for the Port Gibson Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher and church clerk. She also enjoyed the company and activities of her Friendship Club, the Telephone Pioneers and the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Howell Ammons; her son, Charles Ammons; grandson, Keith Ammons; her parents, Cora Massey Watkins and William Massey; sister, Maxine Tullos; and brother, Bill Massey.

She is survived by her son, Norman Ammons; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charles Ammons; grandchildren, Chad Ammons, Sheron Simpson, John and Jay Ammons; and great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Shelby Simpson, Devin and Alexis Ammons and Warren Ellis Ammons.

The family requests that memorials be made to Claiborne Educational Foundation.

Pallbearers will be John H. Ammons II, Jay B. Ammons, Chad Ammons, David Briscoe, John Brady, Bill Moore, Earl Moore and Dorrell Simpson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Malcolm Montgomery, Walter Cade Sr., Tom Bowen, Charles Dobbs, Carl Boren, R. L. Ritchey, Thomas Russum, Ray Starnes and John Nobel.

Mary Belle Dillon

Mrs. Mary Belle Dillon died Monday, April 21, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.

A native of Redwood, Mrs. Dillon was the daughter of the late Will and Mattie Belle Owsley Breland. She was a longtime member of the Issaquena County Home Demonstration Club and a homemaker.

Mrs. Dillon was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, H.I. and Will Breland Sr.; three husbands, Harmon Perryman, James Max Barnett and Robert L. “Hap” Dillon; a brother-in-law, J.C. Martin; and a sister-in-law, Irena Breland.

She is survived by a son, Buck Barnett and wife Louanna of Vicksburg; a sister, Irene Martin of Redwood; seven grandchildren, Bridgette Parra, Corey Chustz, Kyle Barnett and Casey Pettway, all of Redwood; Jennifer L. Richards and Angelis Ward, both of Vicksburg; and Cynthia Rubio of Arlington, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dottie Breland of Vicksburg; and two nephews, Mitchell Martin Jr. and Chris Miller.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight.

Pallbearers will be Paul Parra, Corey Chustz, Kyle Barnett, Edgar Richardson, Rodney Porter and William Breland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy King, Marty Welch, Marvin Breland and Tommy Breland Sr.

Christine Keever

DELTA CITY — Christine Keever died today, April 22, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rolling Fork. She was 89.

Mrs. Keever was a Carroll County native and had lived in Delta City for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Delta City Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Keever.

She is survived by one son, Charles “Bubba” Keever of Anguilla; three daughters, Janette Fedric of Greenwood, Charlene Price of Rolling Fork and Faye Barlow of Anguilla; and 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Delta City Baptist Church with the Rev. Nick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hollandale Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.

Otis T. Logue

HOUMA, La. — Otis T. Logue, formerly of Vicksburg, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Houma, La. He was 71.

Mr. Logue was a graduate of Culkin Academy, where he played football. He was a retired corrosion engineer and a published author.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a Freemason, Ka-Jon Grotto prophet, a Knights Templar in the York Rite, a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite and a Shriner in Jerusalem Temple.

He was past president of Harvey Canal Industrial Association and a founding member and inaugural president of the South Central Industrial Association. He served on the boards of the International Association of Corrosion Engineers, Jo Ellen Smith Hospital, International I-49 Coalition and other civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas O. and Odette Alborado Logue; and two sons, Otis Timothy Logue and Michael Logue.

Survivors include his wife, Kimino Tsuru Logue; three daughters, Teri L. Williford of Lafayette, La., Tanis L. Sewell of Lake Charles, La., and Lynda M. Shaw of Thibodaux, La.; one brother, Gen. Thomas O. Logue Jr. of Ridgeland; and 12 grandchildren.

Services were March 25 under the direction of Samart Funeral Home in Houma.

Memorials may be made to the SCIA for the Otis T. Logue Scholarship Fund.

Debra Yvonne White

Debra Yvonne “Debra Doo” White died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 36.

Ms. White was a 1989 graduate of Vicksburg High School. She received an associate degree in medical coding from Baker College in Flint, Mich. She had returned to Vicksburg and was a waitress at LD’s Restaurant.

She was a member of Bingham Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert White Sr.

Survivors include her parents, Cherry Chatman, the Rev. Leroy Chatman and Verlean Chatman, all of Vicksburg, and Samuel Brown of Florida; one son, J’Darius White of Vicksburg; one daughter, J’Quita White of Vicksburg; a brother, Leroy Chatman Jr. of Houston, Texas; three stepbrothers, Timothy Ross and Charles Ross, both of Vicksburg, and Noell Ross of South Carolina; a stepsister, Clara Stamps of Vicksburg; her grandmothers, Annie Bell White of Vicksburg, Rose Lee Chatman of Natchez and Dorothy Brown of Muskegon, Mich.; her fiance, Jessie Jones of Flint; and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
