Mae Henry Carter died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 84.

Mrs. Carter was born in Edwards to Tommie and Roberta Lee Tucker. She attended Southern Christian Institute and was a member of St. Mark M.B. Church in Edwards.

She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Isola Tucker Broome; and her husband, the Rev. Lloyd Carter Sr.

She is survived by six daughters, Bertha McGowan, Catherine Carter Brister, Christine Davis, Barbara Buie and Arquillia Carter, all of Edwards, and Mattie Thornton of Petersburg, Va.; five sons, Jimmie Lee Carter, Vertis Lee Carter, Samuel Carter, Roosevelt Carter and Joseph Lloyd Carter; a stepson, Lloyd Carter Jr. of Champaign, Ill.; 38 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and cousins and other relatives, including Robbie Carter Anderson of Edwards and members of the Todd, Tucker and Lee families.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Good Hope M.B. Church Cemetery in Edwards. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Funeral Home.
