Downtown bookstore gears up for signings
Two upcoming book-signings are scheduled at Lorelei Books, 1103 Washington St.
Randy Russell, author of “Ghost Cats of the South,” will sign copies of his book at 5 p.m. Monday at the downtown bookstore. Additionally, Mississippi author Kathy Chase Young will sign her children’s book, “In a Mississippi Winter,” from 10 a.m. until noon Nov. 1.
“Ghost Cats” is a collection of ghostly tales and experiences with departed pets that Russell gathered during travels across the South.
Young’s work, which features full color and an extra-large format, is designed for readers aged 5-9 and is centered around a fictional Southern classroom.

Fondren group presents ‘Rocky Horror’
Fondren Theatre Workshop will produce Richard O’Brien’s Broadway musical, “The Rocky Horror Show,” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the old Pix-Capri Theatre, 3023 N. State St. in Jackson. The theater group will donate 20 percent of all net proceeds to MS HeARTS Against AIDS.
Ticket prices are $20 general admission, or $15 for seniors/students with ID. Admission does not include an additional screening at midnight Nov. 1.

Circus set at Jackson’s Veterans Memorial Stadium
Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars will present multiple performances at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson. Show times are 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Oct. 19. Attractions include springboard acrobatics, clowns, human cannonball, flying trapeze, animals and more.

Great Delta Bear Affair set in Rolling Fork
The Great Delta Bear Affair, a heritage festival and celebration of Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday, is scheduled for Oct. 25 in downtown Rolling Fork. Most of the activities, including live music, a 5K run/walk, children’s activities, food vendors and arts and crafts, will be centered around the courthouse square. Additional, offsite attractions are a birding tour on Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge; a self-driving tour of Prehistoric Indian Mounds led by archaeologist Sam Brookes; and a trail ride through Delta National Forest.
Entertainment on the main stage will include performances by the S-I Mass Choir, King Edward Blues Band, Eden Brent, Sweetwater Jade, The Grayhounds and more.

New Stage to offer ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’
New Stage Theatre of Jackson will present “To Kill a Mockingbird,” a play adapted by Christopher Sergel from the classic novel by Harper Lee, from Oct. 22 until Nov. 2. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Preview night is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21.
