Mary Washington Banks

FAYETTE – Mary Washington Banks died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at her home in Fayette. She was 79.

Mrs. Banks was a member of Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church, where she served on the mother board. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho Court No. 202.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lizzie Ballard Washington; her husband, James Banks Sr.; two daughters, Mary L. Washington and Ruth Ann Banks; four sisters, Louise Hedrick, Matile Booker, Elizabeth Jones and Lela Coleman; and three brothers, Esau Washington, Floyd Washington and Dan Washington.

Mrs. Banks is survived by three sons, James Banks Jr., Julius Banks II and Rickey George Banks, all of Fayette; four daughters, Willie B. Banks, Betty L. Banks, Cathy E. Banks and Faye Banks, all of Fayette; three brothers, George Washington Jr. of Port Gibson, Roosevelt Washington Sr. of Fayette and Willie Washington of Natchez; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Rosie Dixon of Fayette.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church in Fayette with the Rev. Emory Charles Cotton officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at the funeral home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Charles R. Segrest

PEARL – Charles R. Segrest died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, in Pearl. He was 48.

Mr. Segrest was preceded in death by his father, Edward Segrest Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Segrest of Los Angeles; two brothers, Edward Segrest Jr. of Vicksburg and Roger Segrest of Utica; four sisters, Ida Brown of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Rose Jackson of Gardenia, Calif., Carrie Jackson of Los Angeles and Gwendolyn Brooks of Port Gibson; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Barry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from noon until the service
