Two Warren County men were in Issaquena County Jail on false report charges after bomb threats were made to two Vicksburg businesses Monday.
Christopher Hayes, 20, 123 Crockett Road, and Tommy Friley, 17, 1163 Standard Hill Road, were arrested Tuesday after a daylong search for the culprit of threats made to Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 2150 Iowa Blvd., and Kangaroo Express, 725 U.S. 61 South, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
Shoppers were evacuated and incoming traffic was halted at Wal-Mart at 12:57 p.m. as store management reported a man called and said a bomb was inside the building, then hung up. At 2:15 p.m., an identical call was reported at the gas station across the street.
After calls from the businesses were traced, Hayes was arrested at 2:37 p.m. at Kings Point Ferry after returning from work as a tractor driver for a farming operation on the island, Stewart said. Friley, believed by police to be a friend and co-worker, was arrested at 2:49 p.m. on Long Lake Road and will be charged as an adult, Stewart said.
Each faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to state law governing false reports of threats made to private and public places via telephone, mail, e-mail, mobile phone or fax.
Bond was set at $15,000 for each charge, totaling $30,000, Stewart said.
