Senior Center outstanding

Since my husband and I moved to Vicksburg after Hurricane Katrina, The Senior Center, directed by Jennifer Harper, has been a wealth of information and provided avenues to have fun, learn new hobbies, take classes and network.

We think our Senior Center is one of the best in the United States, if not the best. To give you an idea of what we experience daily at the Senior Center this is what we have done in July: quilling class, computer class, Bridge, canasta, bingo and a VPD drug dog demonstration. My husband also teaches a driver’s license class for Judge Thomas.

Also interesting this month was the CodeRed sign-up program and AARP safe driving class.

Vicksburg is a certified retirement community and Jennifer Harper has all the answers. If anyone needs help, Jennifer knows the answer or how to find the answer. She is amazing and we are very thankful for her leadership.

However, lacking with our Senior Center program is transportation. We have no available way to travel as a group on day trips, local tours and activities, or to go to other locations. Anywhere we go we must use private transportation and we have many elderly people for whom driving is a challenge.

We could use some form of transportation such as an NRoute bus.
