Autopsies have confirmed drowning as the cause of death for two Vicksburg men who died in a boating accident on Long Lake while fishing Friday evening, Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said.

James East, 39, 903 Wabash Ave., and Jermaine Walton, 25, 1205 China St., were fishing with a Joshua Williams, 22, 1325 Jackson St., in an aluminum boat in the Kings Point Ferry area when the boat overturned around 6:40 p.m. and cast the three into the water, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said. Williams, who was wearing a life jacket, clung to the side of the overturned boat and was rescued by deputies. The bodies of East and Walton, who were not wearing life jackets, were recovered Saturday around 1 p.m. by divers with the Vicksburg Fire Department.

“We were pretty sure we knew what happened,” said Huskey, who received the autopsy results from the Mississippi Crime Lab this morning. “We knew it was a drowning.”

Huskey added that East and Walton had no other injuries.

East was a 1990 graduate of Warren Central High School, a landscaper by trade and described as an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Walton, a 2005 graduate of Warren Central, was employed at Waffle House on North Frontage Road.

Funeral arrangements, both at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home, include visitation for Walton from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday with the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation for East will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Vicksburg Auditorium. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
