Principal demoted; others shifted to fill

Beechwood Elementary’s most recent former principal, John Johnson, has been demoted in a disciplinary action, Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Swinford said Tuesday.
Swinford said she could not comment on the reason behind the decision.
“Upon completion of our investigation, a decision was made to demote him to assistant principal at Vicksburg Intermediate contingent on board approval,” Swinford said. “Because it’s a personnel issue, I can’t discuss it further.”
Johnson, who declined to comment on the move, had been promoted to principal of Beechwood in 2011 after three years at Vicksburg Junior High School. He has been with the district for nine years.
His move to the assistant principal’s position at Vicksburg Intermediate School set off a chain reaction of job shifting in the district.
• Former Warren Central Assistant Principal Tamikia Billings will be interim principal at Beechwood until the position can be advertised and filled. She will be considered for the position if she applies, Swinford said.
• Dr. Gwen Reiber, who has been assistant principal at Warren Central Junior High School, replaced Billings at WCHS.
• Jessica Holly, who had been assistant principal at Vicksburg Intermediate, will replace Reiber at Warren Junior.
Swinford said all the moves will be presented for approval by the Board of Trustees during a regular meeting Oct. 25.
“This worked out well for Beechwood,” Swinford said. “When you look at discipline and students, placing Mr. Johnson at Vicksburg Intermediate works out well. It’s good to have administrators of different genders at each school.”
Johnson is a native of Morton. He received his bachelor’s degree from Tougaloo College and his master’s from Jackson State University.
