A Texas man accused of shipping a quarter pound of methamphetamine to Vicksburg via Fed-Ex and then delivering another quarter pound of the drug in person will stand trial in September.

Jeremy Helton, 25, 2300 McGarity Lane, Allen, Texas, waived arraignment and did not plea before Circuit Court Judge Isadore Patrick Friday after an indictment by Warren County for possession of meth. Patrick set trial for Sept. 9.

Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents intercepted a package shipped from Helton April 11 at a Fed-Ex center in Richland, according to court records. The package contained approximately a quarter pound of meth and was addressed to a home on Redhawk Road, according to records.

An undercover agent delivered the drugs to a man at the home who said he had paid $8,000 for the drugs but was willing to cooperate with MBN. Agents arranged for Helton to drive to Vicksburg with a second shipment and arrested him April 16 at Holiday Inn Express, 4330 South Frontage Road. At the time of his arrest, Helton had 157.1 grams — just over five ounces — of meth in ice form and $3,400, according to court records. Ice is a potent form of meth that resembles shards of glass or ice.

Helton was indicted as a habitual offender. He has been convicted in Texas of meth possession and credit card fraud.

In another arraignment Friday, a Vicksburg woman accused of embezzling more than $10,000 from her former employer will go to trial in September.

Melissa Eldridge, 47, 8656 Freetown Road, waived arraignment and did not appear in court Friday. Patrick set trial for Sept. 16.

Eldridge is accused of embezzling $10,685 in merchandise from Sunsational Tanning Boutique, 104 Holt Collier Drive, during a several-month period.
