Crews were assessing damage from the ground and waiting for the wind speed to drop to 35 mph to activate bucket trucks, Arnold said.

In Warren County, there were 91 reports of trees down, and 54 reports of downed trees in the city between 6 Wednesday night and 10 Thursday morning.

Reports of trees down and power cuts are scattered around Claiborne County, Sheriff Marvin Lucas said.

Outages at Eagle Lake in north Warren County were “nominal,” utility officials said.

Fallen tree limbs on primary lines had cut power to 75 customers at Eagle Lake, said spokeswoman Ann Bratton, of Twin County Electric Power Association.

Crews with Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association worked on Redwood Road and Sherman Avenue.

About 1,100 Yazoo Valley customers are without power, primarily in Redwood, spokeswoman Rebecca Yeates said.

Schools

All schools in the Vicksburg Warren School District were to reopen Friday, provided each has power, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Swinford said. Power was out at Bowmar and Redwood elementary schools, Swinford said.

Classes were to resume Friday at Porters Chapel Academy, Vicksburg Catholic School, Alcorn State University and Hinds Community College.

Waste Management

Pickup was canceled Thursday and was to resume Friday.

Shelters

A shelter was set up in Vicksburg at Church Of Christ, 3333 N. Frontage Road, by the American Red Cross after a tree fell on a trailer on Myrtle Circle off Kirkland Road. Red Cross-sponsored shelters were established earlier this week in Jackson, Hattiesburg and on the Gulf Coast.

Military park

Downed trees closed Vicksburg National Military Park until further notice, a news release from the park said.

Limbs and trees were down throughout the park and blocked the tour road. The closure applies to all visitors and uses. Fitness users are not to bypass gates and barricades blocking the entrance, it said.

Vicksburg Mall

Closed for business. Anchor stores Belk, Dillard’s and Goody’s remained open.

Prep football

Warren Central’s game against Hattiesburg scheduled for Friday night is now scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Viking Stadium.

Vicksburg High’s game against Richwood of Monroe, La., has been rescheduled for Saturday at 1:30 at Richwood High. The game was scheduled for VHS, but is being moved to the Louisiana school because Richwood has a turf playing surface. Anyone who had bought tickets to the VHS game before Isaac hit the area can get refund starting Tuesday at the Vicksburg Warren School District athletic office on Mission 66.

Friday’s Porters Chapel football game has been postponed and no makeup date has been set.

St. Aloysius earlier in the week postponed until Oct. 19 its game against Hinds AHS.

Health Department

Warren and Claiborne County Health Departments will be closed Thursday.
