Agape Montessori
• Kim Carson’s toddler Montessori class made a leaf collage and painted with apples and leaves while learning about fall. Avery Williams was named Star Student of the Week.
• Reece Johnson’s junior primary Montessori class made apple art, learned apple songs, counted apple seed and read apple books during an apple theme. Tina Sowell’s senior primary Montessori class made a tree craft using hand-prints for leaves. They learned to be polite and patient during a character development study.
• All preschool classes made apple butter, apple cake and other treats as part of a Johnny Appleseed birthday celebration.
• Terri Allen’s kindergartners and first-graders mixed ingredients, picked colors and formed dough shapes to make Play-Doh cookies.
• Students and staff members participated in Hats for Hope to help fight cancer.
Beechwood
• The school celebrated PBIS with Pajama Day as a reward for good behavior. Activities included wearing pajamas to school, eating popcorn and watching a movie.
• As part of a study of apples, Dara Hendrix’s kindergartners made apple mobiles, painted with apples, tasted various apples, graphed favorite apples and created torn-paper apples. They celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday with an apple-tasting party.
Bovina
• Giant pledge leaders for the week were Jagger Weekly, Jacob Gould, Zoe West, Trimekiara Jackson, Emily Bull, Amber Busby, Thomas Cockrell, Audrey Ezell, McKayla Quinton, Max Carlisle and Lailah Washington.
• Bovina Giant leaders for earning the most Giant Bucks were Stephanie Figures’ second grade and Christy Montgomery’s third grade.
• As part of a September service project, students donated food to the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society and raised $500 after having $1 Jean Day each Wednesday.

• Brooke Butler, STEM lab teacher, coordinated Student Council elections. Assisting were parent volunteers Susie Etheridge, Ann Smith and Chiquita and Amos Pendleton and staff members Linda Clanton, Felicia Myers and Monica Watson. Parent volunteer Ann Smith is assisting teachers with the leveled library.
• Debbie Freeman spoke to Lana Fuller’s third-grade GATES classes about citizenship in celebration of Constitution Week. Heather Calnan and Catelyn Park, occupational therapy students at University Medical Center, helped classes with an ongoing community service project for a local nursing home.
• After reading “Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten,” the Rev. Casey Fisher, retired postman, spoke to students about services of the U.S. Post Office. Julie Bryant, children’s librarian from the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library, read “Bats at the Library” and spoke to kindergarten students of Starla Breazeale and Desiree’ Norris about library cards and summer reading programs. Ann Davis, grandparent volunteer, read stories about dinosaurs and distributed bookmarks. She also read to the first-grade class of Sheryl Mobley and Gloria Smith. Sarah Nasif of Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg read to first-grade students of Neely Ming and Pamela Elam and helped them complete an interactive reading project. The class charted and graphed favorite apples after a study of Johnny Appleseed.
• Christian Bradfield was named Student of the Week in the pre-K class of Uretka Callon and Misty Sullivan. Parent volunteer was Jordan Emerson. The classroom Fall Harvest will begin at noon Oct. 26. MaKenley Tillman was named Student of the Week in the pre-K class of Rachel Dean and Jennifer Funches. Grandparent’s Day celebration has been changed to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 25 due to Case 21 assessments.
First Presbyterian
• Gloria Sullivan’s kindergarten class celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day by creating torn-paper pictures, tasting apple varieties and “scattering” seeds. Jackson Holden was named Star Student for the week.
• Lynnette Smith’s pre-kindergarten class studied Johnny Appleseed by reading books, painting with apples and enjoying apples. Anzley Keen was named Student of the Week.
• Kari Dupree’s preschoolers created dogs and read “Daniel and the Lion’s Den” after a study of the letter D. Camille Jeffers and Kennedy Rowland were named student leaders.
• Teri Conerly’s beginners class created Connie cows, crazy cats and colorful candy corn crafts after an introduction to the letter C.
Hinds Career and Technical
• DECA members attended the Scholastic Fair at Vicksburg Mall Saturday to share information about business fundamentals and marketing classes taught to VHS and WCHS students. Stacy Thomas, a junior at Warren Central High School, and Donna Cook attended DECA table at the Know Nutrition Health Fair at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
• Volunteering for the VSO soccer tournament in Bovina were DECA members Evelise Ross from Vicksburg High, Stacy Thomas from WCHS and Ali Grace Cook and Jordan McDonald from St. Aloysius. They operated inflatables and helped where needed for service hours.
• Tupperware orders are in and can be picked up at HCC room 2 between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Call for delivery. DECA members are selling tickets for the Shopping Extravaganza Oct. 13 at Outlets at Vicksburg to help fund the year’s conferences. • Business fundamental classes typed a business letter with a complaint, email and inter-office memo and gave a 2-minute speech as part of a communication unit.
Jacob’s Ladder
• Phillip Scales was Leader of the Week.

• Angela Wooten with Snapped and Framed Photography took student portraits.

Kids Are Kids
• Students are studying the letter C, color pink, heart shape and number 7. Students held a bike ride Friday.
• King and Queen Fundraiser will end Friday, and winners will be announced Tuesday. They will be showcased in homecoming parades.
• Students of the Week were Kayden Ross and Jaliyah Jackson for academy and Emarie Mayfield and Jayden Younger for preschool. Door winners: Back to School — Felicia Williams and Evelyn Thomas; Fall — Shebba Carter and Deborah Miller.
• Certified child restraint technicians from Vicksburg Police Department spoke about seat belts and visited as part of Carseat Safety Week.
• Spanish students made tissue roll unicorns.
Porters Chapel
• Eagle 4-H members who received blue awards for artwork submitted at Warren County Exhibit Day were Wes Allison, Samantha Brewer, Brittney Caldwell, Kirsten Dickard, Samantha Hawn, Zach Holdiness, Alaina Hubbard, Brandon Lynn, Jonah Masterson and Rachel Ross. They will advance to the Mississippi State Fair 4-H Village for competition. Members who received red awards were Kathy Davidson, Stephanie Flowers, Austin Kraemer and Taylor Rushing. All classes are encouraged to participate in the Eagle 4-H canned food drive benefiting The Salvation Army; the goal is 1,000 food items.
• Seventh- and eighth-graders are participating in the Too Good for Drugs program sponsored by Warren Yazoo Mental Health Association.
• Parent-Teacher Fellowship is seeking volunteers to help build a Vicksburg Christmas Parade float.
• Cheerleaders are selling spirit ribbons each Friday for $1. Prom Committee members will be selling Candy Grams throughout October.

• State Championship rings were blessed and presented to members of the golf and tennis teams.
• Juniors will begin selling pecans Tuesday to raise money for the Junior/Senior Prom. Items may be purchased by contacting any junior class member.
• The annual Powder Puff football game will be tonight at Balzli Field. Cost, $6 per person, will benefit publication of the yearbook.
St. Francis Xavier
• Tiffany Keen’s third-graders observed the hatching of seven chicken eggs in an incubator donated by Jennifer Greer, parent volunteer.
• Johnny Appleseed visited Montessori students, who shared apples and apple juice.

• Smile Day, an event to reward positive behavior, will be held 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday. Volunteers are needed to man various stations.
• PTO will meet Thursday in the cafeteria; snacks and child care will be provided. Pizza Inn Night fundraiser will be 5-8:30 p.m. Tuesday; faculty and staff will be servers.
• Deloris Lott’s second grade won the Candy Corn Estimation Contest sponsored by third-graders.
South Park
• Fourth-graders participated in the Bulldog Multiplication Challenge and created foldables to learn about multiplication properties.
• Kindergarten classes of Angelia Donaghe, Rebecca Powers and Susan McKinnie used apples and M&Ms as part of a graphing, sorting and classifying activity.
• Library parent volunteers during the week were Jessica North, Stacy Truesdell, Susan Trest and Harriet Gray. PBIS volunteer was George Beatty.
Vicksburg High
• Sophomores and juniors may sign up for PSAT/NMSQT to be administered Oct. 17. Cost is $14, cash only. Qualifying juniors are eligible for Merit Finalist money.
• Students taking the Oct. 27 ACT must scan photos to appear on admission tickets.
• Coca-Cola Scholarship information is available at www.coca-colascholars.org. Deadline is Oct. 31. Gates Millennium Scholarship information is also available.
• Report cards will be issued next week. Bruckner’s Photography will return Oct. 10 to take senior orders during lunch. Mu Alpha Theta dues are needed by Oct. 12; $5 for membership and $5 for cord money.
• Guests in the Mississippi River class were Brian LaBarre and Steve Jones of the Corps of Engineers. LaBarre spoke on environmental considerations of Corps projects; Jones spoke on waterway navigation and gave an introduction to dredging.
Vicksburg Intermediate

• Case 21 testing will be Monday-Oct. 11; students should arrive at school on time. Common Core parent training will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the gym. Orders for new school spirit shirts must be submitted by Oct. 10; prices are $10, youth medium-adult XL, or $12 for adult 2XL-3XL.
• Cynthia Senior’s fourth-graders are observing a butterfly habitat shared by student Erin Gullett. Junior Auxiliary members Jennifer Grey and Mary Katherine Ellis provided students with pencils and placemats promoting “Good Nutrition Starts with My Plate” at the MCT2 Parent Showdown/Gator Read Night.
• As part of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, students and staff wore blue shirts as part of a Project Sync promotion and received Gator Bucks. Alice Jones’s fifth-grade class was recognized for wearing the most blue shirts.

The test will be given Oct. 17; cost is $14 and should be paid when signing up.
