DETROIT — Elmira Evans died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Providence Hospital in Detroit. She was 94.

Mrs. Evans was born in Vicksburg and moved to Detroit in 1942. She was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church in Detroit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Robert I. and Pinkie Stub Copeland; her husband, Warren Evans; five sisters, Thelma C. Austin, Arcola C. Pearce, Airee C. Brown, Bertiel C. Smith and Ineze C. Williams; and two brothers, Murtis Copeland and Buick Copeland.

Survivors include her four nieces, Climmie White of Detroit and Thelma Corrothers, Imura Scott and Irene Davis, all of Vicksburg; three nephews, Clarence Williams of Vicksburg, Darnell Williams of Chicago and Preston Bingham of Detroit; great-nieces and -nephews; great-great-nieces and -nephews and other relatives and friends, including Edna Williams and Laura Jones of Vicksburg.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John A.M.E. Church.
