A Vicksburg man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a fatal robbery at Confederate Ridge Apartments.

Corey Thompson, 26, 4880 U.S. 80, was sentenced Wednesday by Judge M. James Chaney.

Thompson faced up to life in prison for a May 1 robbery, but Chaney chose to sentence him to 12 years, citing no prior felony convictions.

Thompson was convicted of two counts of armed robbery March 29. During the May 1 robbery, 19-year-old Maurice Morris was shot and killed.

Defense Attorney Ottowa Carter Jr. asked Chaney to reschedule the sentencing from last week so a doctor could determine Thompson’s life expectancy. No doctor’s note was presented during the sentencing.
