By the 4-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Warren Central’s starters were done for the night.
And what a night of work it was.
The Lady Vikes dismantled visiting Crystal Springs 67-33 Monday behind a game-high 24 points from post player Denitra Bracey. The win gave the Lady Vikes a 5-0 start, their best under fourth-year coach Jackie Martin-Brown.
The win leaves the team in good shape as Martin-Brown heads to a leave of absence due to surgery. Her return is yet to be determined, and assistant Troy Hennison will coach the team in her absence.
“It’s really going to be on these seven seniors to lead this team,” Martin-Brown said. “I can see the confidence building in them, the excitement of being undefeated. I’m happy and proud of them and I told them I hope they keep it up while I’m out. I just want them to keep this thing rolling.”
Warren Central didn’t wait long to catch fire, as Bracey scored nine points to propel the Lady Vikes to a 16-3 lead after one quarter. At the 1:30 mark, Martin-Brown subbed out her entire starting lineup, and the reserves held serve.
The momentum continued in the second quarter, as the Tigers didn’t score their second field goal of the game until 4:15 remaining. By then, the Lady Vikes had amassed a 25-5 lead.
In the second half, it was more of the same as the Lady Vikes pulled away. Rolanda Lovette added 11 points and Jessolyn Farmer added eight as the Lady Vikes shot a sizzling 49 percent from the floor.
Tanesha Towns led Crystal Springs (0-6) with 11 points.
