Josephine Teresa Canizaro Head

Josephine Teresa Canizaro Head, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at River Region Medical Center. She was born March 9, 1932 in Vicksburg, where she grew up, married and raised a family.
Josephine was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church where she served as a member of the Altar Society, Eucharistic Minister and lector. As a 1950’s graduate of St. Francis Xavier, she and her graduating class met monthly up until her passing. She retired from Waterways Experiment Station after many years of service. Josephine remained active after retirement being involved in numerous clubs and organizations including the Warren County Republican Executive Committee where she served as secretary since 1997. Josephine was also secretary of the Warren County Republican Women’s Club as well as the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Other activities included the Openwood Garden Club and the River Region Hospital Auxiliary.
Josephine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Lee Head; six children including, Reggie Head (Donna), Judy Stoy (John), Greg Head (Cathy), Donnie Head (Vanessa), Jeanine Hanks (Richard), and Joe Head (Leah); three sisters, Teresa Meder, Juliet Sanderson, Lucy Williams; a brother, Jack Canizaro; and 12 grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Juliet Canizaro of Vicksburg.
Visitation will be held at Riles Funeral Home Monday, Aug. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service immediately following. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Patrick Farrell as celebrant.
Pallbearers will include Robert Head, Michael Head, Cory Head, Justin Head, Ethan Head, and Kevin Sanderson. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Whitaker and Dominic Sanderson.
