The NCAA Tournament bubble burst for Mississippi State and Ole Miss on Sunday, but the season goes on.
Both teams received bids to the National Invitation Tournament after they were passed over for the NCAA field.
Ole Miss (20-13) is a No. 2 seed in the 32-team NIT, and will host Illinois State (20-13) on Wednesday night at 8:30. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
Mississippi State is a No. 4 seed, and will also be a first-round host. The Bulldogs will play Massachusetts on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
“I’m thankful for another opportunity, especially after leaving the SEC Tournament on a sour note,” MSU senior guard Dee Bost said in a release from the school. “As a senior, I’m looking forward to playing at least one more game at the Hump.”
Neither Ole Miss nor Mississippi State are strangers to the NIT.
Ole Miss is playing in the tournament for the third consecutive year, and fifth time in six seasons. The Rebels reached the NIT Final Four in New York in 2008 and 2010.
Mississippi State is making its sixth appearance overall, and second in three years. In its last appearance in 2010, State advanced to the second round before losing on a last-second shot to North Carolina.
In addition to the two Mississippi schools, two other Southeastern Conference teams will play in the NIT.
LSU (18-14) will travel to face Oregon (22-9), and Tennessee (18-14) will host Savannah State (21-11). Both games are scheduled for Tuesday night.
