Betty Gotthelf England

Betty Gotthelf England died Sunday, June 10, 2012. She was 84.

Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of Bernard Henry Gotthelf and Vivien Phillips Gotthelf. She graduated in 1945 as salutatorian from Carr Central High School. She attended All Saints’ College and the University of Mississippi and was a graduate of East Central State University of Edmond, Okla. She also studied Egyptology at the University of Cairo.

Mrs. England retired as a tour guide from the U.S. Park Service. She was a member of the Anshe Chesed congregation, serving on the temple board numerous times.

She is survived by two daughters, Betsy England Porter (Clifford) of Sherman, Texas, and Phyllis England Neu (David) of Whitesboro, Texas; two grandchildren, Ashby England Porter and Tyler Miles Porter; three great-grandchildren, Jolie Reese Porter, Knox Houston Porter and Easton Scout Porter; and her companion of 12 years, Leon L. Jacobs of Vicksburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William Earl England.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Anshe Chesed Temple with Rabbi Marshal Klaven officiating. Burial will follow at Anshe Chesed Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the temple from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Ashby Porter, Tyler Porter, Cliff Porter, David Neu, Stan Kline and Albert Hossley Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry Rankin, Richard Marcus, Joe Gerache, Dr. Paul Ballard, Ben Lamensdorf and Julius Herscovici.
