A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail this morning charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

“Deputy Dan Ratliff was passing by Parkside Playhouse on Wisconsin Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. yesterday,” Pace said this morning, “when he saw six people behind the theater.” The six told Ratliff they were foraging for scrap metal.

One of the six, identified as Chucky Jones, 43, 1427 Oak St., was questioned and frisked after he put both hands in his pockets, Pace said.

Jones was carrying a Lorsen .380 automatic handgun and a vial holding six rocks of what are believed to be crack cocaine, the sheriff said.

Jones was being held without bond, awaiting his initial court appearance.
