Jurors began hearing testimony today in the murder trial of a man accused of killing his mother’s live-in boyfriend in 2011.

Jeremy Blake Bowlin, 19, who is accused of killing 25-year-old Timothy Harmon, faces life in prison if convicted.

Jurors were chosen from a pool of about 300 Warren County residents chosen at random from voter lists and sworn in by Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick.

The testimony had been set to begin Monday, but jury selection didn’t wrap up until about 4:30 p.m., so opening arguments were delayed.

The trial originally had been set for Feb. 21, but only 69 of 250 potential jurors responded to summonses.

Just after the killing, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Harmon was the live-in boyfriend of Christine Bowlin, 38, and she and the two men shared the home at 3400 U.S. 80 Lot 4 where the shooting occurred

The men were fighting before Harmon was shot with a high-powered hunting rifle while standing in the door of the trailer.

The .243-caliber hunting rifle believed to be the gun that killed Harmon, a 30.06 rifle stolen from a hunting camp and several other weapons were recovered from the residence, Pace said.

The defense will argue that Bowlin acted in self-defense, attorney Ramel Cotton said at a hearing in February.

Since his arrest, Bowlin has been held without bail because he was under indictment for grand larceny and burglary when the killing occurred. Those cases are still pending.
