Vicksburg to be highlighted in commercials in five states

Four television commercials highlighting Vicksburg’s history, entertainment, dining and shopping venues will begin airing in five states Thursday, Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau directors were told Thursday night.
Watching the previews was the only action taken by the board, which failed to have a quorum. Six of the 11-member board of directors attended the meeting. Seven are necessary to conduct official business.
VCVB executive director Bill Seratt said the ads will appear in major cities in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and either Tennessee or Alabama, but did not specify the cities. He said Tennessee might be excluded from the market because of statewide elections, which have raised advertising rates.
He did not have a total cost for the spots. He said the VCVB has not received a bill from Times Fly Production of Jackson, which is producing them.
“The project is not finished,” he said. “There’s still some more work to do. The crew will be coming back to shoot video in the transportation museum at the depot and at the (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) Lower Mississippi Interpretive Center. They are also producing some 60-second spots that we will be running on our website.”
One of the ads, called “Commemoration,” promotes the Sesquicentennial of the Siege of Vicksburg in 2013, while another, called “History,” highlights the city’s museums and the Vicksburg National Military Park. Two others, “Entertainment” and “Shop and Dine,” look at the casinos, the city’s blues history, its restaurants and shopping opportunities.
In other matters, the directors learned the board’s July meeting will be July 17, the September meeting has been changed from Sept. 27 to Sept. 20, and the November and December meetings will be combined. A date for the combined meeting has not been set.
